Cabin Construction – Week Eight

Not alot done construction-wise this week as they had alot of rain (story of the summer) – however we did get the excavator back out to connect the septic tank to the house and dig the trench for the well and power! Kenny got the meter up too so we are ready for the power company to come hook us up!

Cabin Construction – Week Seven

Wow, this is taking longer than we thought.  But..  this week they got the porch on and it looks amazing!  I am already laying out where the patio furniture and porch swing will go.  More siding on the second floor, still waiting on stairs in side and the deck railings nad the metal roof, more rain coming next week so hopefully soon!

Cabin Construction – Week Six

This week they got alot done – they got the subroof on and the front deck. Once we saw the view there and had a glass of champagne to celebrate I could tell we’d be on that deck more than in the cabin! Left to do are roof, finish framing, stairs inside and the porch, and then we’ll get estimates for plumbing and electrical rough in.

Cabin Construction – Week Five

Finally! Two of the decks are on, and the side stairs – no more climbing ladders drunk.. lol They got more second story siding on, have to do the log portion and also the rafters for roof, once they get the front deck done they can do roof, which is good because its still soaking wet up there.

Cabin Construction – Week Four

This weekend my friend Joanie came into town to visit so we headed to WV to see the progress. When we got there the concrete truck was just leaving – they poured the basement floor and the deck footers. I had assumed that the basement would come with a concrete floor since the builder knew we were planning on finishing the space – yet another surprise.. but we finally have a concrete floor and drain. I also had him put in a couple extra ones on one end of the porch to support a future hot tub – but that’s way down the road. They also got more roof framing and the sub-roof on the second story. Went back to the South Branch to swim and drink beer and it is starting to get chilly! Here are the pics –

Cabin Construction – Week Three

More rain.. 😦 Actually Kenny said they only got 3 half days due to monsoons.. I am sure that it’s not good for the subfloor to stay wet, but he assures me that it’s guaranteed 50 years and will be fine. They were able to get the second floor on and start roof framing – good news is next week is supposed to be dry – can’t wait to see the progress then! We also went over to James and Ana’s property, which is really nice, but then it started raining so we came back and cooked out – our neighbor Scott came over and we all sat around and drank a bit before everyone turned in. Really nice weekend.

Cabin Construction – Week Two

The crew got in four days work this week, as Friday brought heavy rain & storms coming through. They got the logs stacked to the second floor and the first floor framing done. We are having an issue with water running into the basement so David dug it out in front of the door so the gravel will drain into the french drain pipe properly. Eventually we want to do a retaining wall and steps – plenty of cinderblocks left over for that! We also hiked a few miles and saw the beavers again. On the way back to DC we stopped at the South Branch river for a swim and met a really nice couple who bought some property in Ashton Woods recently as well.
