Cabin Construction – Week One

Well it rained most days, so our builder Kenny says.. But they were still able to get the subfloor done, and get the logs stacked up to the window sills. The view from the great room is really nice and we toasted progress there with a glass of champagne. Still need to talk to Kenny about – a) extra support under corner of deck for future hot tub 🙂 , b) concrete floor for basement and when that happens, and c) final price on metal roof.

On the way up we have started stopping near the VA/WV state line, because there is an artesian well/spring we always see folks at getting water.  After stopping last time we are hooked – best coldest spring water I’ve ever tasted and best part, it’s totally free, you just fill up however many containers you have.  Also, this trip up we saw a 5′ long black rat snake, and I saw an eagle (no pics). I noticed too we lost a huge tree on the ravine over the grotto, it was split and black inside so I wonder if lightning hit it during the June “derecho”. Stopped at Lost River Brewery on the way home and had late lunch – they also sell 64 ounce growlers of beer! Yum!
